Pop's Farm, Day Two

The camping trip at my dad's farm...the story ended with everyone starting the day with coffee.  Well, Burl's was milk with a splash of coffee.  My dad and I were coming up with different ways to entertain him until sunrise.  By sunrise, Burl was chomping at the bit to feed the cows.  I stayed in the Winnie for more coffee, slipping out every so often to snap some shots or take the tractor for ride.

I tried to get Burl to take a nap before the rest of the crew showed up, but that never happened. Everyone made it there, and the action got started.  Fern and I hung out inside for a little bit, and she really enjoyed watching the action from the bed on the dashboard.  Eventually, we joined the group.  My dad made steaks and veggies on the grill.

This was the first farm trip where Burl was part of the farm action.  He followed my dad around, wanting to be a big farmer.  My dad said it was one of the best days of his life.  He tried to explain it, then ran out of words.  "I don't have the words to explain it, because I guess I don't quite understand what it meant to me."  Sure, we made memories and had fun, but there was something more.  Dad, I'll try and help you out with the words.

Something special happens when we share a passion with those we love.

John and I with climbing.
Patty and I with dancing.
My brothers and I with laughing.

It's a lot of good stuff happening at once.  Whether we find those who like the same music as us, agree with our religious views, participate in the same activities, we find another depth to our relationship when we share those things.  If it's with someone we love, it's even better.  Dad, I think that you loved it so much because you and Burl related on another level, making your relationship a little deeper and a little tighter.  Until next time, Burl will be playing farm for a long time!
