Mainx24 Parade, 2012

Who knew that parades were still alive?  Aside from the fancy ones on the TV, I thought they were extinct.  This past weekend, we hit up the Mainx24 parade. Aside from the rest of Chattanooga, this was our first year and the biggest, coolest, jamming-est event that the city rocks.

We started things off right: John and Burl hit the firehouse, while Fern and I went for snacks.  John told me that Burl was extremely excited about sitting in the driver's seat of the fire truck.  With authority, he told all the other kids, "It's alright!  I drivin!"

The snacks were right up there with awesome!  We dined on lard-dried homemade donuts.  That's like the hipster version of fried snickers.  I just tasted donuts, but John said he could taste the pork.  He's got some super refined taste buds.

We plopped down in the grass and the parade got started.  The kids were interested for a little bit, and I was howling at everybody, thinking of ways to trick out the minivan for next year.  Loud speakers, teen wolf, loads of candy...there's stuff in the works.

Look closely, and you will find a wonderful collection of hipster parents and a bumping marching band, which is combination as classic as peanut butter &, uh, hummus.  Well done, Southtside, well done.

This quickly got on our "tradition" list.  There were so many fun people there.  The people watching was off the charts.  It was so much fun.
