Tea Lights & Burlap

I'm a firm believer that the best baby/wedding/hoopla showers happen in the evenings.  Gone are the days when we sat around in the middle of Sunday afternoons dressing friends in toilet paper wedding dresses or Saturday mornings filled with guessing what melted candy bars are in each diaper.  I'm pretty sure that us ladies just want a reason to get together and gush while enjoying some good old fashion shower food.  Man, can I make some bad decisions when it comes to shower food.

I cut several different styles of burlap fabric, then sewed them into a banner.  Cheap and easy!

Last Friday, that smiley girl in the picture below and I hosted a shower for our friend, Allison.  We kept the colors neutral, the decorations light, the menu fun, and the ambiance exciting.  Allison loves her some neutral and burlap (her wedding here), so that was our theme.  Our decorations were the flowers above, some burlap, and candle light.  Bada-bing, bada-boom.

We served desserts and drinks.  Easy for us, easy for everyone else.  Keeping things simple when it comes to hosting always takes some stress off of me, which helps me have a much more fun time.
Easy going hostess > fancy-smancy menu

While a good pinteresting-looking party is fun to drool over, that's just not how I roll today.  Don't get me wrong, I like, nay, LOVE me some festive, but these days it's more about the time we had then the things we decorated with.  Who knows, maybe next year, I'll be all about the arts and crafts and tissue paper and chevron napkins and 4,000 balloon centerpieces.  This year, just give me some pretty plants and some tea lights and I say, Game.On. Let the festivities begin.

It's all about the friends anyways.  These friends?
They're pretty fun and festive and they make anything a good time.

  1. This is beginning to my life theme more and more: less is more. My daughter's 3rd birthday is coming up, and I simply don't feel like going all out Pinterest style, so I'm not! Just a few pretties here and there, and we'll be good to go. (And I wish I could have been at that party! Looks like some really fun girl time and a perfect atmosphere to shower the new momma!)
