2014 Mainx24 Parade

The Mainx24 parade is one of my favorite things of the Christmas season. It's a great parade where we see several people we know. We get lard fried doughnuts. We take pictures. We people watch. We go rain or shine (rain this year).

Until the paraders start throwing candy, the kids are unsure of what is happening. I've passed down my people watching genes, so they are thoroughly entertained during the 1-mile race. It's always a treat when we see our crazy friends run by:

Then, the marching band comes by and the candy is thrown our way and the fun starts. I asked each of the kids what their favorite part of the parade was: Burl likes the band, Fern likes the trumpets. For the record, I like a good beat and hype.

While Burl jumps up and down with his buddy, Fern stays skeptical in the stroller. While they both enjoy hype, they take it in very different ways. In their own way, they enjoy it. Despite the rain, we enjoyed yet another great year at the best parade in town.

Ok, I'm going to put this out there in hopes that it comes to fruition. Every year I stand there and think that I could totally enter the parade as a participant. This year an idea came together: A Farm Christmas. I called my farmer father who loves attention more than I do and threw him the idea. He took the bait. We tossed some ideas, and he called me three more times that day with ideas. Farmer Santa. Goats. Music. Hopefully next year I will blog from inside the parade. A girl can dream, right?

  1. My spouse calls it The Weirdo Parade, but I think it's fun. We baled because of the weather this year, but if you'll be there in full force next year, we'll be sure to make it.
